Dr. Frederic (“Rick”) Carlson
Chief Technology Officer

Rick spent the start of his career at the University of Southern California where he was professor of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science. In addition, he held appointments in the Annenberg School of Communications and the School of Education, and later became Director of the Engineering Computer Laboratory, Chairman of the Computer Science Department, and Associate Dean of the School of Engineering.

In 1989 Rick founded the Advanced Computing Systems Company, which jointly developed system software for the RS6000 with IBM. After ACSC was acquired by Veritas, he held senior management positions at Quantum and then Maxtor, before co-founding Panasas. He then co-founded Thrasos Therapeutics and simultaneously served as CTO and VP at TimeSpring Software until its acquisition. Throughout his career Dr. Carlson has focused on System Software and System Architecture including operating systems, file systems and storage.  At Nethra he is responsible for developing technology for the signal and image processing.

Rick received his B.S.E.E from the University of Rochester and his Ph.D. from the University of Southern California.
